Noise Cancellation Headphones For College Life

It is that time again where people all over the country are getting ready to head off (or back to) college. From time to time you may feel the need to get some peace and quiet, if not for studying then at least to block out the noises from across the hall so you can chill out and listen to your tunes. There are a lot of options out there and some of them are really expensive. I’ve found that the Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones give you the biggest and best bang for the buck.

Like everybody else, I guess I was hoping to find a product that would totally block out all sound. Unfortunately you just can’t pull that off with earplugs or headphones. As a point of reference, an average conversation is about 60dB- 70dB, a telephone dial-tone is about 80dB, a whisper quiet library is about 30dB. I have looked all over the place to try to find the best solution for blocking out sound and it seems like the limit for headphones or earplugs is about 30dB. So, if you just put on the headphones and you aren’t playing any music, you are going to hear some background sound no matter what headphones you get. The Bose QuietComfort headphones appear to be the most popular headphones out there for blocking sound but they only reduce noise by about 17dB. They also cost around $300. For under $100 you can get the Direct Sound EX-29 headphones and they will block 29Db of sound - this is a 70% improvement over the Bose headphones.

So how do you get rid of the remaining noise? Well, I looked into that too. The folks at QuietHeadphones.com include a FREE white noise audio track that is one of the best audio tracks I have ever heard. It is a mixture of waterfall sounds and birds chirping. Their audio track also uses binaural beats to promote concentration and creativity. Binaural beats is a cool concept but, for the sake of this post, I just want to point out that the quality of the White Noise Track from QuietHeadphones.com is very impressive - especially for being free. You can pay $15 or more for tracks like this that don’t sound nearly as good. The White Noise Track is only available as a digital (MP3) download. It is not included on a CD in the box or anything but you can easily make your own CD if you feel so inclined. Most people will probably just put it on their iPod.

There are a couple other models of noise cancellation headphones available form QuietHeadphones.com. For example, they offer the Direct Sound EX-25 headphones as less expensive alternative to the EX-29 headphones. The EX-25 headphones block 25dB of noise which is only slightly less noise reduction but they will save you $40 and are a bit smaller in size. It turns out that the big difference between the two models is not the amount of noise reduction but the quality of the speakers in the ear cups. The EX-29 speakers are studio quality and really do sound great. The EX-25 speakers are more of a ‘home use’ version of the headphones. So if you wanted something to wear while you cut the grass or if you wanted headphones for traveling then you may want to get the smaller, less expensive model.

I have never before seen a company offer such an excellent warranty either. They will give you a 6 Month, 110% money back guarantee. This does two things for me. First, it gives me more than enough time to see if the headphones will meet my needs. Second, there is no way they could keep this up if people didn’t like the headphones. So people are clearly pretty satisfied with their purchase. There is also a speakerless version of headphones available but I didn’t try those out. I wanted something I could use with my iPod. So if you are looking for some great headphones at a great value, consider the noise cancellation headphones from QuietHeadphones.com.

The software

For a few years, CBS has been running a television show called Numb3rs. The premise is the standard take off on the brothers-solving-mysteries cliché that has been around since at least the Hardy Boys. Of course, Numbers has some thngs that are different – the boys are employed and older. Don Eppes, the older of the pair, runs a team of FBI agents based in Los Angeles – a fair step above the amateur sleuthing of the Hardy boys. Charlie Eppes, the younger brother, is a math genius and a professor at the fictional “Cal Sci”.

Each week, Don and his street-savvy FBI team encounter a problem, usually a time sensitive one, which is just too tough to figure out through traditional police work. Set your watch by it; Professor Charlie Eppes and his team of nerdy yet smart mathematicians are able to use some form of advanced mathematics to accomplish a some inventive tasks from deciphering where a kidnapping will happen to the contents of boxes.

And while a great deal of that is Hollywood magic, taking lab theory and shoehorning it into unrealistic time periods with even less realistic amounts of data, there is one part of the show that I always admire. During the hour-long show, the young Professor Eppes must give an explanation to a complex, doctoral-level mathematical system in a way that a team of federal agents can understand. This happens every single episode with such predictability that the character in the show have started to expect it, even making jokes and attempting to give their own explanations.

Charlie’s explanations are clearly a plot device to convince the audience that his brilliant mathematical insights aren’t simply a weekly deus ex machine. However, just as Charlie has to explain how his math models the real world, the use of software estimation can often seem just as improbable. True, you can sit back and say “Well, the program relies on parametric modeling of our current situation,” but that look is far more likely to generate blank stares than anything else.

It’s the Eco-Friendly Way

We’re all trying to be more environmentally aware these days, and a great way to do that is to buy pre-owned products that are still in great shape. For businesses, that means buying used trade show displays instead of new ones. While new displays can still be eco-friendly, buying a used trade show booth means that no additional resources had to be used to create another display.

The only thing better than being eco-friendly is saving money, and with a used trade show display, you can do both. Pre-owned displays cost much less than comparable new displays, and the savings you’ll get from buying used can be put towards accessories like banner stands, literature racks, and flooring - all things that will draw more people to your display. Save your company some money and do the environment a favor by buying a used trade show display from Trade Show Joe. It’s a decision you won’t soon regret.

A Race to the Finish: DSL versus Satellite Broadband

Millions upon millions of people are quite confused about the differences between DSL and cable internet connections. Fewer still understand the advantages and disadvantages of satellite internet access. Potential subscribers who want to enjoy the fastest service for the lowest price are understandably bewildered by their choices. Fortunately, the decision is usually a simple one.

For most people, satellite broadband service will be a less than ideal choice. Below, we’ll explain how the service works and the type of customer most likely to use it. We’ll also explore how it compares to a DSL connection. You’ll likely find that if a conventional broadband alternative is available in your area, it will be a better solution.

Satellite Broadband In A Nutshell

In order to understand how satellite broadband (SB) compares to a digital subscriber line, it is worth reviewing how the technology works. The service does not use phone lines, fiber optics, or a cable infrastructure. Instead, the upload and download data transmission takes place via a dish and an orbiting satellite.

The dish must be installed so that it maintains a clear path skyward. If its “view” is obscured (for example, by trees, clouds, etc.), the data transmission may be slowed or temporarily severed.

One of the limitations of SB service is the rate at which you can upload and download data. You can download at rates up to 1.5 Mpbs and upload at 256 Kbps. While that is markedly faster than a dial-up modem, both throughput rates are significantly slower than those offered by a DSL connection.

Another limitation involves price. Given the slower performance of the technology, you would expect its price to be lower than that of a digital subscriber line. However, that is rarely the case. More often than not, SB service costs as much, if not more, than a conventional broadband connection.

Is A Digital Subscriber Line Better?

Simply put, yes. First, a digital subscriber line is normally less expensive on a monthly basis and it’s easier to install. Second, it will seldom require a long-term contract while an SB provider will push for such a commitment. Third (as noted above), the data transfer rate of DSL is almost always much faster than that offered by satellite internet. By contrast, SB will often carry a higher monthly bill, cost several hundreds of dollars to install, and offer a slower datastream. What’s more, it can be unreliable if the path of the dish is obscured in any way.

The reason SB customers use the service is because their alternatives are usually limited. Subscribers often live in areas that lay outside the territory serviced by DSL Internet Providers. In that case, the technology - as limited as it is - might be considered valuable. However, if you live in an area that is near a DSL provider, they will usually be able to offer the most value (i.e. speed, reliability, etc.) for the price.

Finally we had move in to a new place, me and had husband had finally decide to transfer to a new place. A place where we build our own house and live our life together with my kids. It was fun and enjoyable having kids but there are times that you must know how they can get busy. But not all the time they find playing toys enjoyable. There are times that my children prefer watching television than playing games. Especially when I turn on the dvd player and played a movie. If I caught my children’s attention with the movie then it’s time for me to start unpacking the boxes and rearranging the stuffs. But there are times that they don’t like the movie that I play, when i run out of cd’s what I do is to turn it on the local channels. But seems that the kids enjoy more with the movies that was played by the Direct TV. My husband did apply for their service before we transfer so that when we are already on the house we do have the service availble. The Directv do offer a lot of packages without giving us too much cost for the service. Good thing that the service was available on our new location the Direct TV in Albany, we can sure to have their programs and channel available even if we had transfer to a new place.
